In teaching EDEC 310: Early Childhood Assessment, Dr. Hattie Harvey, an assistant professor at the University of Alaska Anchorage, assigned students to write a free verse poem based on an article from Young Children along with information from a Pre-K Teach & Play blog on assessment.

About the Poet:
Amy Nalesnik is a 29-year-old Early Childhood Education Major at the University of Alaska. She was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, and she is the mother of three young children. Her son, Liam (6), her daughter, Charlie (3), and her newborn son, Jude, inspire her to be an advocate for children across the country. Her goal is to instill a love of learning in all young children by teaching in a creative and authentic way. Amy enjoys writing poetry and plans to use it as a tool in her future classroom.
